Tanworth and Camp Hill are very proud of our junior section. We run 3 teams in the Cotswold Hills League, with an Under 9’s and two Under 11’s sides for the 2016 season. We will also have an Under 12’s team playing friendly matches. We also play a huge amount of friendly’s throughout the season, spanning from April-August.
We firmly believe we create a fun, enjoyable learning environment to encourage players to develop and improve their cricket, whilst maximizing the amount of games played, providing opportunities to enable players to gain a long-lasting love for the game, in which the long-term aim is to progress players in to the senior teams.
2016 is the third season since the junior section’s rejuvenation in 2014. We rebuilt our junior section with coaching and after-school clubs at Tanworth-in-Arden and Dickens Heath Primary Schools, which have both been very successful in bringing enthusiastic young cricketers back to Tanworth and Camp Hill Cricket Club.
The development of the players over the past two years has been fantastic to witness. Starting from beginners with limited hardball cricket experience in 2014, to now having the range of skills and confidence to improve their games, whilst enjoying playing the sport to the full.
2015 was a season of great progression. We finished 4th in the league and reached the Quarter-Finals. We played 30 matches in total and won 21 games, including two tournament wins at Cookhill and Avoncroft. The progression in all of the players was fantastic to see and in combination with superb teamwork, we now have a firm foundation to build upon for 2016.
This season, we doubled our membership to 40 junior members players ranging from 6-12 years old and we would be delighted to welcome players of all ages and abilities to our junior setup.
With the increase in membership, we have entered two under 11’s teams into the Cotswold Hills League this season (‘Blues’ and ‘Maroons’). This is a huge step forwards for the club with 16 players now able to play regular cricket on Sunday mornings. There are two divisions (North and South) and after 6 matches, the league splits and forms play offs based on league position, ending with the final in July. The Under 9′s will play in a number of soft ball tournaments across the season!
The league runs through until July. However, the season continues through to August with regular friendly matches and tournaments to provide as many opportunities for our juniors to play cricket in order to develop and improve as players, gaining experience and knowledge of the game, whilst maintaining enjoyment.
All of our junior coaches are ECB Level 2 qualified and have up to date DBS and First Aid certificates.
